In your confirmation booking email you will be sent a link to an intake video. It is REQUIRED to watch before your consultation. Please write any questions down to ask Christina.

It is 30 min long and covers:

  1. consultations

  2. number of appointments required

  3. aftercare and restrictions

  4. pain control

  5. insurance and payments

How to prepare for your appointment:

Please reschedule your appointment if you're ill. Tattooing of the breast requires us to be in very close contact for a prolonged period of time. If you arrive to your appointment with symptoms of illness, I will either require you to wear a mask or reschedule your appointment per my discretion. I try to avoid getting sick, as it results in my having to cancel multiple people's appointments that they've been looking forward to for many months.

Masks not required in my room as long as no symptoms of illness are present. If I fall ill, I will communicate that to you as far prior to your appointment as possible.

Cost is payable in cash or card on 1st visit,  nothing owed on 2nd.  If paying with an FSA/HSA card, bring an alternate form of payment in case it doesn't recognize me as a health care provider.  I'll provide paperwork for reimbursement purposes with that company .

Tipping is not required, but if you feel inclined to leave a tip, it is greatly appreciated.

I cannot do insurance authorization for you.

If attempting insurance reimbursement, you will be provided codes to use and call on your behalf for possible reimbursement.  If they are resistant to cooperate ask the following:

#1 if they cannot find an in network provider that offers tattooing for breast cancer reconstruction purposes within  50 mile radius of your home, they should do an in network exception and cover the reimbursement at the in network level with me as the provider. If your insurance company requires a form to make an exception for me to be covered for reimbursement at an in network rate, this must be done ahead of time. Do not wait until the day of your appointment as insurance will not accept it on the day of the procedure, it must be done prior and I have only allowed time enough for your procedure on your scheduled day. I cannot do this or make phone calls to your insurance company during your alloted time slot for tattooing.

#2. This service is not cosmetic as it is covered under the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 which is a federal law...you have a right to a completed finished reconstruction which includes the medical tattooing mentioned in the terms of that law. (the cpt codes are linked to the diagnosis codes)

#3 if insurance will not reimburse,  we can pursue charity funding.  I sometimes offer free tattooing for teaching opportunities for my students. They are already experienced tattoo artists just looking to improve their technique.

Please bring any insurance authorization approvals that you have attained and reimbursement forms from your specific insurance company with you to your appointment and I will fill out my part and provide you with an itemized receipt of payment.

Instructions & Aftercare:

*This should be the last step of your breast reconstruction. Please do not have any revision surgeries planned in the immediate future. We can discuss the possibility of future revisions during your appointment.*

Bring or wear a bra.

Eat breakfast or bring a snack.

Ok for juice and water bottles too.

Just come with clean skin, no lotion, powder or cream (especially NO NUMBING CREAM! ) I will apply my own to your skin if you require it. Ok to wear a long sleeve shirt that opens in the front to wear during the tattoo. Remember,  low activity for the 1st week and refraining from immersing in a body of water for 2-3 weeks afterwards. Showers are fine.

* DO NOT COME WITH TAN SKIN IN THE TATTOO AREA SPECIFICALLY (SPRAY TAN OR TANNING BED INCLUDED) TO YOUR APPT * This interferes with color choice/matching of inks. Obviously NO SUNBURNT SKIN. If you are tan where I need to place your tattoo, your appointment will be rescheduled.

IMPORTANT:

Typically appointments are 2.5 hrs unilateral and 3 hrs bilateral.

For bilateral, I allot the 1st hour for you to complete your consent forms and the prep work. This includes deciding on placement, size, shape, color picking and details you want included in your nipples (texture, creases, Montgomery glands, duct openings...). It's a lot, so the more prepared you are for that part, the smoother it will go and the less anxiety you'll have about making game day decisions on the spot.

* If we use your preop pictures as inspiration,  that will help. Nipples are hard to describe verbally so, please bring pictures to show me of nipples/tattoos you like for size, shape, details,  and color. This will greatly help in the design process.

  • For unilateral tattoos: Christina will match the existing nipple you have. If it is very light, there could be a chance it will need to be tattooed for a better match.

Please do not come to your appointment, unprepared to make these decisions.

If the planning phase exceeds the first hour of your appointment, I will not have enough time to do your tattoo that same day and your procedure will be rescheduled.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Chrissy 🧚‍♀️
